About AOK Niedersachsen
As one of Germany’s largest statutory health insurers, AOK serves nearly one in three Germans, providing comprehensive health and long-term care insurance. AOK, which operates over 100 service locations across Lower Saxony, has always prioritized the comfort of its visitors. Modernizing its digital signage with a powerful, ready-made solution by Yodeck and Sharp/NEC ensures that waiting times are not just bearable but informative and engaging.
The Need
AOK Niedersachsen’s goal was to upgrade its signage system to allow for centralized display management at 82 locations, enabling quick and efficient updates across all its service centers. Flexibility, security, and resource efficiency were critical, ensuring content could be updated in real-time from a single location without increasing operating complexity.
“Our task for the AOK Niedersachsen project was to equip 82 locations with a total of just under 90 monitors that can be easily controlled and maintained remotely from a central location. Accordingly, we brought our software partner, Yodeck, on board, who was able to support us with a powerful signage system.“

The Solution & Benefits
The 90 displays used for the project came from the NEC M Series, chosen for their high brightness, 24/7 operation, and low power consumption—factors that align with AOK’s sustainability goals. The standout feature of these displays is the plug-in Raspberry Pi players, eliminating the need for external media players and enabling a more streamlined, clean deployment. This integration simplifies installation and reduces the number of external devices and cables, making the solution more reliable and easier to maintain.
The Raspberry Pi slot players provided a seamless and future-proof connection to Yodeck’s cloud-based content management system (CMS). Yodeck’s CMS enabled real-time remote control, content updates, and device management, ensuring that AOK’s displays could always show fresh, relevant content with minimal effort. This approach helped reduce maintenance time and ensure consistent performance across all 82 service centers.
“Yodeck never ceases to surprise us with its clear user interface, despite the many options offered by the software. The collaboration was excellent, and we were able to provide everything required of the signage system and solve every challenge to the complete satisfaction of everyone involved.”
